A Wayne County woman died on Friday after being in a ATV crash in Lewis County, while another had to be airlifted to Syracuse.

A Wayne County woman died on Friday after being in a ATV crash in Lewis County, while another had to be airlifted to Syracuse.

According to the New York State Police, troopers responded around 12:53 p.m. to a reported crash involving an ATV and a truck on North Shore Road in the town of Diana, Lewis County.

Upon investigation, it was found that 53-year-old Savannah resident Tammy J. Shears was driving a 2013 Suzuki ATV east on North Shore Road and around a sharp curve in the roadway when she drove into the path of a 2018 Dodge pick-up truck driven by 20-year-old Isaiah S. Young of Gouverneur. Although Shears took evasive action, they caused the ATV to overturn, ejecting her and 28-year-old Sodus Point resident Bailey R. Dougherty.

Shears was pronounced dead at the scene. Bailey Doughery was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse with severe leg injuries. Young was uninjured.

The investigation is ongoing.
