Remember when President-elect Donald Trump pledged that he would bring only the “best people” with him to Washington to help him “drain the swamp?” How do you think that is working out? Here is a rogue’s gallery of the innumerable scalawags that comprise Trump’s warped pantheon of superior beings:

• Secretary of Labor Alex Acosta, who 11 years ago as US Attorney in Miami gave a sexual predator of multiple middle schoolers the sweetheart plea deal of the century: 13 months of sleeping each night in jail (but allowed out and about during each day) for copping to a scandalously reduced charge. Hopefully, by the time you read this, Acosta will be back under the Everglades rock from whence he emerged. Feel sorry for the pythons.

• EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt, whose manifold scandals in office are too numerous to recite. He slunk off to Oklahoma under a cloud of no fewer than 11 congressional investigations of his slimy conduct and transformation of EPA into the Environmental Pollution Agency.

• Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, who competed with Pruitt for the “Sleaze of the Swamp” award. His abuses of taxpayer dollars were legendary. A reckoning is hopefully pending.

• HHS Secretary Tom Price, for whom the price of anything he could steal from taxpayers was right. He wasted no time spending our money gallivanting all over the place mixing his personal business with that of the people he was supposed to serve and left in disgrace before Washington even got to know him. An early winner of the Kleptocracy Medal that so many Trump appointees qualify for.

• Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, the Great Recession Foreclosure King who has a difficult time distinguishing what’s his from what’s ours.

• HUD Secretary Ben Carson, he of the $31,000 dining room set he demanded for his government office. Two-and-a-half years into his job, he is still clueless about his department’s portfolio, shaming himself every time he is hauled before a congressional committee.

• Secretary of Veterans Affairs David Shulkin, another disgraced cabinet dude who converted public resources for his own pleasure.

• Attorney General Bill Barr, who gave up an honorable career as an officer of the court in order to become the court sycophant for a lawless president.

• Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, she of pyramid scheme renown. Under her “leadership,” her department is reneging on 99 percent of its promised student loan forgiveness for individuals with ten years of public service.

• Wilbur Ross, the Commerce Secretary who lied to the U.S. Supreme Court about including a citizenship question on 2020 census forms in order to enforce the Voting Rights Act, a law that the Trump administration has gone to extremes to gut.

• White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, who wasted no time after getting fired hooking on with a private firm that keeps migrant children in squalor at the border.

• White House aide Rob Porter, both of whose ex-wives came forward with photos of the beatings they endured from him.

• Press Secretaries Sean Spicer and Sarah Sanders, accomplished liars who took their job to depths penetrated only by their boss.

• The Many Trump Judges whose nominations were withdrawn when their white supremacist, misogynist, racist and other despicable views became embarrassing even for this White House. And that’s saying something!

The word from the Swamp is: “If this is what draining looks like, keep it coming.” Rest assured, the Swamp-Thingy-in-Chief will do just, provided he is not in danger of exhausting the supply of scoundrels from which to select successors to this bunch of malefactors.

It leaves you gasping.
