Supervisors Lynn Chatfield, Laurie Crane and Steve LeRoy recently discontinued the state of emergency for all bays in the towns of Huron, Sodus and Wolcott.
Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts asks boaters to stay as far away as possible from shorelines to reduce erosion and protect property, and avoid docks that may be submerged.
The navigation law requires a 100-foot no wake zone; however, Virts asks boaters to observe a voluntary 500-foot zone of any Lake Ontario, Sodus Bay, Port Bay and Blind Sodus Bay shoreline.
“Boaters are urged to stay as far away from the shorelines as possible to reduce damage caused by boat wakes during this time,” Virts said. “I ask for boaters’ voluntary compliance with a no wake zone within 500 feet from any shoreline to reduce erosion, protect property and avoid submerged docks.”
Virts’ voluntary advisory remains in effect throughout the 2019 boating season.
