Wayne County Council for the Arts, 108 W. Miller St., Newark, will showcase “Threads,” an exhibition of traditional and unusual fiber-based materials and techniques that express the vision of the artist, starting Oct. 17.
This is a judged show open to all fiber artists in the region. Works must be of original design by the artist and not exhibited previously at Wayne Arts. Pieces made from kits must be labeled as such and will not be included in judging.
Wayne Arts is accepting work in 2D and 3D, as well as heirloom pieces. These can include quilts, weaving, floor and wall art, felting, vessels and baskets, sculptures, tapestries, needlework, handmade paper, and wearable items and accessories.
Up to three pieces can be entered at $20 for Wayne Arts members, $35 for nonmembers. Entry fees include a free one-year membership. All fees are nonrefundable. Cash, credit cards and checks payable to “Wayne County Council for the Arts” are accepted.
Art can be delivered from 3 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 12. “Threads” will be on display until Nov. 23, when the art will be removed from 3 to 6 p.m. The reception will run from 4 to 6 p.m. on Nov. 9. Special accommodations need to be requested at least 10 days in advance by phone or email.
Artists will be eligible for cash awards. A prospectus is available online and at the gallery.
