The Collins-Cassavino American Legion Post 227 in Lyons shut its doors for the last time this year, but its history will be preserved at the Museum of Wayne County History.
Former Cmdr. Gary Featherly and his wife, Katie, brought items from the Post to the museum, including the original framed 1931 charter, plaques of past commanders, articles, scrapbooks and historic photos. They also presented a $750 check to Kathi Marshall, president of the Wayne County Historical Society Board.
“This is to cover the care of the artifacts that we are giving to you and also to preserve the history of the Post,” Featherly said as he presented the check to Marshall. “I couldn’t think of a better place to put it.”
The donation is being processed through the Collection Committee. Many of the artifacts will be displayed in the Military Exhibition Room at the Museum of Wayne County History, 21 Butternut St., Lyons.
