The Finger Lakes Region SCCA will hold its Fall Fling Road Rally on Nov. 16 at Heintzelman’s BBQ Pit, 6361 Knickerbocker Road, Ontario.
A time, speed, distance road rally is not a race, but a precision driving event conducted on public roads at posted speeds. At least two people comprise a rally team: a driver and navigator. Route instructions are provided in Tulip diagram format — line drawings of each intersection — with mileages provided.
Teams need a wrist or stopwatch, calculator, flashlight, and pen. Drivers need a valid license, current inspection sticker and proof of insurance. Visit flr-scca.com/road-rally for requirements and recommendations.
The rally route is approximately 80 miles and fully paved, so sports cars or other vehicles with limited ground clearance are welcome. Teams will follow the Winter Series TSD format, with a pre-rally from 2:45 to 3:15 p.m. to teach rally navigation and timing for novices. Follow-up coaching will be available at the midpoint break.
Entry fees are $15/car for SCCA members, $20/car for guests. Cash or credit card are accepted. Two classes will run at one speed: experienced and novice at B-Speed (40 mph).
Registration will run from 2 to 3:15 p.m. The first car will take off at 3:31 p.m. and return around 7:30 p.m.
