The Newark Athletic Hall of Fame recently announced the fourth induction class of athletes, coaches and supporters of Newark athletics.
This group was selected by the Newark Hall of Fame committee made up of community members and coaches. The committee selected the 2009 girls basketball team, Alyssa Fenyn, Diane Kirnie, John Miranda, Anthony Muscolino, Brent Oakleaf, Red Thomson and Cindy Timerson.
“The fourth class of the Newark Hall of Fame might provide the best evidence of the excellence that is Newark Athletics,” said Chris Corey, director of health, physical education and athletics. “This class includes legendary coaches, Division 1 athletes, players of the year and of course, New York state champions. I am most pleased that the committee was able to recognize athletes that graduated more than 40 years ago, which goes to show that the culture and history of Newark athletics is as rich and deep as any community in NYS. The accolades of the collective group is awe-inspiring and the induction ceremony is sure to be a night to remember.”
The induction ceremony and dinner is slated for 5 p.m. on Nov. 23 at Newark Elks Lodge. Tickets cost $35. Call (315) 332-3241 or (315) 331-2532 for information.
