Ontario County Humane Society charged Cody N. Mayo, 20, of Phelps, with animal cruelty after the humane society investigated a complaint from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office. The complaint produced a surveillance video that showed Mayo intentionally throwing wood and rubber boots at a yellow lab named Trigger, without any justification, according to the humane society. The incident occurred on the evening of Dec. 7 while the dog was standing at the corner of a workshop.
The report stated Mayo was arrested on other charges by the Sheriff’s Office. The video was forwarded to the humane society for review and after doing so Mayo was charged Sunday with animal cruelty. Mayo was issued an appearance ticket for the cruelty charge to appear in Phelps Town Court at a later date. A check of Trigger’s welfare showed that he didn’t appear to be injured and the dog is currenty with his owner.
