The Wayne Central School District announced Amber Blaakman as valedictorian and Sean Doran as salutatorian for the Class of 2020.
Blaakman, of Ontario, holds a 100.73 GPA. She is a member of the National Honor Society, and participated in Masterminds, Book Club, Science Olympiad Team, German Club and TIES (Together Including Every Student). She was stage left manager for the Theatre Tech Club.
Blaakman received Academic Excellence awards in chemistry, German, precalculus, algebra, geometry, History of the Americas, English, personal finance/technology and ceramics. As a member of the Math Team, she was named Most Valuable Junior and served as captain her senior year.
Blaakman received the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award as a junior and the Chemistry Achievement Award from the American Chemical Society. She will attend St. John Fisher College in the fall to study pharmaceutical chemistry.
Doran of Ontario, has a 99.7 GPA. He was president of NHS and a senior class officer, as well as a member of the Science Olympiad and Math teams. Doran was on the cross-country track team in grades 7-11.
Doran received Academic Excellence awards in technology and Spanish, the Chemistry Achievement Award, and a scholarship through the Gleason Family Foundation. He volunteered at the Heritage Square Museum and Ontario Public Library, and helped Boy Scouts with their Eagle Scout projects.
Doran will attend the University of Rochester in the fall to study physics and astronomy.
