Local student receives Emerson Scholarship

Sydney Reppi, of Wolcott, a 2020 graduate of North Rose-Wolcott High School, is among 30 students nationwide to receive an Emerson National Scholarship.

The scholarship annually goes to children of Emerson employees. Reppi, the daughter of an employee at Emerson’s flow solutions business in Boulder, Colorado, plans to study business at St. John Fisher College.

The scholarship provides $2,500 per academic year for four years. Selection is based on academic performance of the applicants’ GPA, class rank and national test scores. Participation in school activities and community involvement are considered in the selection process.

 

Newark Rotary names 95th president

Donna Johnson, of Williamson, recently became the 95th president of the Newark Rotary Club.

Johnson is a wealth manager for Lyons National Bank. She replaces Holly Kreuser, who served in 2019-20.

Newark has 112 active members and is the second largest club in its district.

 

New York Guard promotes Ontario volunteer

The New York Guard recently promoted Christian Foster, of Ontario, serving with the 10th Area Command, to the rank of second lieutenant.

The Guard is a force of uniformed volunteers who augment the New York National Guard during state emergencies. They provide administrative and logistics support to the National Guard.

New York Guard members do not have a federal military role and do not deploy outside the state. They usually train in a volunteer status and only are paid when they are placed on state duty during emergencies.
