The Screaming Eagles were within two points in the final minutes, which leads off our roundup of Wednesday's local sports

Close calls are becoming more common for the Midlakes boys and the latest came on Wednesday night. And considering some of the scores earlier this season, these close calls are a good thing for the Screaming Eagles.

Mynderse Academy came to town and left with a 48-41 win, pulling away from a four-point lead in the final minutes. After enduring the first half of the season with plenty of lopsided losses, progress is coming for Midlakes.

While the Screaming Eagles didn’t quite pull off the win, they did gain ground against a team that beat them by 11 points earlier this year and what’s more, they held the Blue Devils to 48 points after giving up 76 in that Jan. 10 game.

Kyle McCann and Nate Mahoney each scored 10 points on Wednesday for Midlakes, which is 5-14 after a third straight loss.
