NY COVID tracker: The latest daily coronavirus case, hospitalization numbers in New York

ALBANY – COVID-19 has been on the rise for weeks in New York, with some areas of the state getting hit harder now than during the first wave of the pandemic in March and April. 

On Thursday, New York reported 17,636 new coronavirus cases from the previous day, with the state totaling more than 1 million confirmed cases since the start of March.

It's the latest in a string of days of significant new case numbers across the state, with the test positivity rate rising sharply over the past two weeks. Coronavirus hospitalizations remain at or near all-time highs in the Finger Lakes, central New York and Mohawk Valley regions of the state.

Here are the state's latest daily COVID-19 numbers from Thursday, as reported by Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office Wednesday:

  • 238,550 tests reported (Up from 197,816 the prior day.)
  • 17,636 tests were positive (Up from 16,648 the prior day.) 
  • 7.39% test positivity rate (Down from 8.41% the prior day.)
  • 8,548 current hospitalizations (Decrease of 117 rom the prior day.)
  • 197 confirmed deaths (Up from 161 the prior day.) 

Note: Weekend test reporting tends to lag behind weekdays.
